Georgetown man charged with child neglect

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Horry County Police have arrested a man for unlawful neglect of a child after he allegedly struck a 7-year-old with a belt.

On Wednesday, a police officer responded to the 100 block of Fountain Pointe Lane in reference to a domestic dispute.

The woman who called police told the officer that got she into an argument with the suspect, later identified as Dwayne Wainwright, over her bringing the victim to the hospital, according to a police report. She told the officer that the suspect assault the 7-year-old victim.

She continued to tell the officer that when she got her kids back on April 8, she noticed several bruises on the victim, according to the police report. He told her that Wainwright hit him with a belt several times. The victim showed the officer that Wainwright did not use the buckle.

The officer took photos of black and blue marks on the victim's thighs, upper arm, and back.

When the questioned the suspect, he claimed the victim wet his bed and lied by hiding his clothes, so he "disciplined him."

Thirty-four-year-old Dwayne Lee Wainwright of Georgetown was arrested and charged with unlawful neglect of a child. He was released from J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $2,500 bond.
