NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety will participate in the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration's April 27 National Take Back Initiative.

The North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety stated in a news release that they will hold the Medicine Drop-Off event in the Walmart parking lot at 550 Highway 17 North in North Myrtle Beach on April 17 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Public Safety Officers will be accepting used and expired prescription, over-the-counter and other medicines.

This event stands to give people an opportunity to remove unused and expired prescription, as well as other medicines from their home. Public safety personnel will dispose of the medicine without any questions asked of its origins, according to the news release.

The community is urged to participate in the event because unused or expired prescription medicines  can have be dangerous if left in homes. Participants can help prevent accidental ingestion of drugs by curious children or intentional experimental drug use by teens or adults.

Several previous Medicine Drop-Off events have resulted in the collection of over 111,000 doses of controlled, legend, and over-the-counter medications.
