FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - After a short car chase and crash into a home, specially trained narcotics investigators have taken a man into custody on drug charges.

The investigation into that man began with citizen complaints into drug activity in the Florence area. When investigators first approached 22-year-old Malcolm Xavier Hiers, he drove off in a 2013 Chevrolet, leading them on a short chase until he crashed into a home at the intersection of King Avenue and Alexander Street.

The crash caused damage to Hiers' car and a car that was parked under that home's carport, says Florence County Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Michael Nunn.

Hiers ran from the crash, but investigators caught up with him and placed him in handcuffs. He has been charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and failure to stop for blue lights.

This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges are possible.
