MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - What traffic cameras showed as a traffic headache was actually a possible crime scene that sent Horry County's bomb squad to a stretch of Highway 501 that had been shut down.

And now the road has reopened to traffic. WMBF News partner My Horry News confirmed from Horry County Police that a suspicious package was found in a vehicle on Highway 501 near the juncture with Highway 31, and the bomb squad was sent to investigate.

Beachbound traffic from the Tanger Outlets area to Forestbrook was shut down for nearly an hour as a vehicle was searched and the suspicious package was checked out.

According to Horry County Police's official Facebook page, "The package has been deemed benign."

The traffic cameras from the SC Department of Transportation in that area showed several police vehicles in the ramp that exits Highway 501 heading toward the Forestbrook area.

Several of the WMBF News Facebook fans said they recalled seeing a vehicle parked in that area since Friday.
