CAROLINA FOREST, SC (WMBF) - The Carolina Forest Fire that swept through the Windsor Green community destroyed 26 apartment buildings, several cars, and damaged many other properties.
A plethora of items inside those homes were invaluable to the residents, not the mention the sense of security and ownership they may never be able to retrieve.
But Horry County and the South Carolina Forestry Commission have worked hard to estimate the damages to physical property.
Forestry Commission spokesman Scott Hawkins says their investigation into the fire estimates a cost of approximately $15 million.
However, Horry County spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier says the county took only the damaged and destroyed buildings into account, and their estimate came to $11,603,000.
