FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A motorcycle and tractor-trailer collision near Francis Marion University in Florence resulted in a fatality on Wednesday evening, according to Florence County Coroner Keith Von Lutken.

The crash occurred around 6:48 p.m. on Wednesday evening, on Highway 76 near FMU on the westbound side.

The motorcyclist, whose name is not yet being released, did not notice the tractor-trailer stopped for a red-light and crashed into the back of the vehicle.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not hurt, and no charges are expected.

Coroner Lutken said the man was traveling back to his home in Florence from a day at the beach with his friends and family.
