HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The situation in a Socastee neighborhood where a middle-aged man was barricaded inside a home has drawn to a close.
That man, described to be in his sixties, was inside his home on Plantation Road when a neighbor dropped by to check on him as he normally does. Once the neighbor crossed the threshold, the homeowner began firing shots, but luckily none of the bullets struck him.
Uniformed officers arrived on Plantation Road in Cimmeron Plantation shortly after 12:30 p.m. and negotiated with the man to surrender, which he did around 1:20 p.m.
Horry County Police Department spokesman Sgt. Robert Kegler says the man was taken to the hospital by ambulance for mental evaluations, because it was reported that the man had mental issues. At this point it is unclear if the man is expected to face criminal charges.
Uniformed police officers, SWAT and Negotiations officers responded to investigate the shots fired call.
