MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – In concurrence with National Donate Life Month held in the month of April, the Myrtle Beach City Council proclaimed April 2013 Donate Life Month for its city.
Councilman Randal Wallace will present the official proclamation to Donate Life South Carolina CEO Tracy Armstrong on Tuesday, at the 2 p.m. Myrtle Beach City Council Meeting.
The proclamation honors people who have made the decision to give the gift of life and encourages others to register as organ, eye and tissue donors on the SC Organ and Tissue Donor Registry.
Another person is added to the national transplant waiting list every 10 minutes, and approximately 1,000 people in SC currently need an organ transplant, many of whom will die without more people becoming donors.
South Carolina's Organ and Tissue Donor Registry launched on December 23, 2008 and more than 1.1 million people have signed up to become donors since then. Over 98 percent of those people signed up at the SCDMV.
The City Council Meeting will be held at Myrtle Beach City Hall, at 937 Broadway Street, Myrtle Beach.
