TIMMONSIVILLE, SC (WMBF) - Nineteen-year-old Zacchareu Mooris is being held at the Florence County Detention Center after being arrested for a hit-and-run in Timmonsville on Thursday.

Corporal Sunny Collins with State Highway Patrol said the fatal accident happened on Thursday around 9 p.m. The Victim, 50-year-old Veronica Damon was walking along Tanyard Street. Officers say Morris was driving North on Tanyard when he struck Damon and killed her. According to reports, Mooris left the scene, but came back and officers arrested him.

Most of the people who live on Tanyard said they knew both the victim and defendant. Those people all said this was nothing more than an accident.

Larnell Benbow owns a Barber Shop on Tanyard. He called the accident a tragedy. Residents say most of the street lights on the street do not work which makes it hard to see at night.

"For the safety of our customers we need to have something to regulate the speed limit," said Benbow. "Really during the day time and night time we have to have something to regulate the speed. As you can see there are no speed limit signs."

Morris appeared in court in Florence County on Friday. His family came to show support. Morris was charged with Felony D.U.I. and Leaving the Scene Involving a Death. At this time the coroner has not released Damon's official cause of death. This accident remains under investigation by the State Highway Patrol.
