DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A corrections officer serving at the Darlington County Detention Center has been arrested and charged with misconduct in office.

Those charges, according to the news release from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, stem from an incident on Feb. 6 when the corrections officer, 30-year-old Steven Drake, allowed a female inmate to perform oral sex on him.

That incident allegedly took place in a holding cell in the booking area of the jail, and was captured on surveillance video. Witnesses also corroborated what the camera recorded.

Drake was arrested by SLED and charged with misconduct in office after being booked into the same facility he worked in. According to the arrest warrant, Drake admitted to engaging in the sex act.

The Darlington County Sheriff's Office assures that Drake was placed on unpaid administrative leave when the investigation began and has since been dismissed from his duties at the jail.

If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail or a $1,000 fine.

Drake was released from jail Friday on a $3,000 bond. He was sentenced to house arrest each night from 8:00p.m. until 8:00a.m. until his court date which will likely be in June.

Drake was also ordered not to have any contact with the female inmate with whom he interacted.
