Prescription pill bust lands 6 in jail

DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - An operation by the Darlington County Combined Drug Unit has landed six suspects in jail.

The Combined Drug Unit raided a home on Terrell Street in Darlington Wednesday to find 450 illegal prescription pills.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Andy Locklair says they arrested 53-year-old Grover Cleveland Odom and charged him with four counts of distribution of schedule III control substance, four counts of distribution of schedule III control substance within the proximity of a school, distribution of schedule IV control substance, distribution of schedule IV control substance within the proximity of a school, possession of anabolic steroids, trafficking schedule IV control substance, PWID Schedule III substance, PWID Schedule III substance within the proximity of a school, PWID Schedule II, PWID Schedule II substance within the proximity of a school, possession of a fire arm by a convicted felon, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violate crime, and possession of stolen goods.

While officers were searching the home, undercover agents were conducting 'reverse buys,' leading to the arrests of five more suspects that are all charged with attempt to purchase schedule III control substance. Those suspects are:

  • 50-year-old Dorothy Amerson of Darlington
  • 53-year-old Teddy Wayne Davis of Florence
  • 37-year-old Stanley Jason Bailey of Darlington
  • 52-year-old Joan Davis of Florence
  • 46-year-old Darrell Grady of Darlington

Officers also seized $700 and stolen items that will lead to solving at least one burglary so far. The case is still under investigation, and more arrests are expected, Capt. Locklair says.

"This was one of the biggest Pill busts we have ever had in Darlington County. This guy was a major dealer," said Sheriff Wayne Byrd.
