MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF)
– Police are asking the public's help in identifying two women who are
suspected of stealing several credit cards from women's purses, then purchasing
thousands of dollars of merchandise with them.
"From what we are
gathering, these subjects have gone into different places out in the county, to
visit these establishments. They were able to gain access to the employees'
purses," says Captain David Knipes with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
According to a news release from Myrtle Beach Police, the suspects
went into several nursing homes on February 22, posing as people interested in
the facilities. They then stole credit cards and identification from the
unattended purses of the female employees, according to the release. The
suspects also stole credit cards and identification from the unattended purses
of employees at a local merchant.
"They've been using these stolen credit cards to go around to
different businesses and acquire thousands of dollars in merchandise," says Capt.
According to police, the women used the cards to purchase Apple
products at CityMac and Best Buy.
One victim told Myrtle Beach Police that the suspects had charged
over $11,000 to her various credit and bank cards at stores including CityMac,
Best Buy, Kay Jewelers, and Krispy Kreme.
"The thing we want to remind people is, not only in your cars, but
also in your homes and in your business, keep your purses as secured as you
can," says Capt. Knipes. He adds, "lock it up at work or put it someplace where
it isn't easily accessible to people."
Myrtle Beach Police are asking anyone with
information that could help identify these women to call the MBPD at 843-918-1382
or 843-918-1975 and use case reference number 13-002749.
