MARION, SC (WMBF) – Economic leaders in Marion County are preparing for a major announcement Thursday, promising a significant investment and job opportunity for the area's workforce.
"It's a great day for the tri-county area," said Marion Mayor Rodney Berry, "that being Dillon, Marion, and Marlboro counties."
This economic announcement, the final step in the much anticipated Project Toolshed, comes right on the heels of another major economic announcement for Essex Holdings. Just under two weeks ago, Essex announced it would be investing in the city. Mayor Berry says two major announcements so close together is no coincidence.
"We've gotten more aggressive in our approach," Mayor Berry said. "During the downturn in the economy, which was a couple of years ago, we took that time to get ourselves ready. Now, we're reaping the benefits."
Mayor Berry says the multi-million dollar announcement is for an industrial park in Dillon County, but says Marion will feel the benefits. Some small businesses are hoping it will bring revenue to the downtown district.
"You're talking lots of jobs," said Audery Bahan, owner of Audery's Embroidery, Monogramming, and Gifts. "That'll boost the housing market. It'll boost everything back up."
Mayor Berry says the announcement will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Dillon Wellness Center.
