MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A baby owl is now safe and out of harm's way after Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue extended a helping hand.

A homeowner found that owl in a nest at the Grande Dunes Resort approximately 60 feet up in a pine tree. They called the Myrtle Beach Fire Department, who determined the owl was attempting to jump out of the nest.

There was no mother in the nest. The young owl's sibling had already attempted flying out but did not survive.

"The owl was brought safely out of the nest and placed in a box and secured. The owl was turned over to The Center for Birds of Prey in the Charleston area for rehab and to potentially be released back in to the wild," the fire chief post4ed on the Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue Facebook page.
