False tax returns land Myrtle Beach woman in jail

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Twelve state tax charges for filing false tax returns has landed a Myrtle Beach woman behind bars.

That woman, 33-year-old Cynthia Jean Williams of Myrtle Beach, is the latest arrest by the SC Department of Revenue for tax scams in Horry County.

Officials confirm Williams was arrested for four counts of assisting in the preparation of a fraudulent tax return, four counts of forgery, and four counts of conspiracy. The DOR believes Williams assisted in the preparation of fraudulent returns which resulted in the individuals requesting federal and state refunds totaling $36,250 to which they were not entitled.

Williams was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center. If convicted of the 12 tax charges, she could face up to 60 years in prison and/or up to $22,000 in fines.
