MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A young man is facing child cruelty charges after a child in his care was found with bruises.

The accusations of abuse were reported to Myrtle Beach Police on Friday, March 29 by another caregiver of a young girl. The incident report states the child had bruises that would be consistent with beating by a belt.

Those bruises had been reported to a school nurse a few days earlier but not reported to police until the child was visiting her other guardian.

When questioned, the girl confirmed she was struck with a belt for trying to take the ponytails out of her hair.

The suspect, 27-year-old Alexie Nestro Osvaldo Williams, was taken into custody on Tuesday, March 2 and charged with unlawful neglect of a child.

Police reports indicate Williams had previously been cited for child neglect in April 2012 for leaving a child alone at night while traveling to pick up his girlfriend. His bond on this charge has not been set.
