MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A hit-and-run early Sunday morning resulted in a fatality, according to Cpl. Shannon Toole with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge says the victim, 31-year-old Chadwick Michael Range,  passed away from injuries caused by the accident. Range was new to the Myrtle Beach, having moved to the area around a month ago from Maryville, Missouri to study golf.

Police received a call around 3 a.m. regarding a pedestrian walking along 17 bypass between 29 Avenue North and 38 Avenue North. Officers were dispatched, but before they arrived, police received another call stating the man had been hit.

The vehicle that hit Range fled the scene, but the car and the driver were located early Sunday morning by police. Selvin Gonzalez is charged with Leaving the Scene Involving Death, according to Cpl. Toole, which has a maximum 25-year prison sentence.
