LEXINGTON, Va. – Tyler Herb was dominant in game one for Coastal Carolina to lead his team to a 6-1 win and the Chanticleers forced extra innings in game two, but a 10-inning error gave VMI a 10-9 victory Saturday afternoon at Gray-Minor Stadium.
Coastal Carolina, who wins the weekend series, is 15-12 overall and 4-2 in the Big South Conference. VMI, who snapped an 18-game losing streak with the game two win Saturday, is 13-17, 4-5.
Tyler Herb struck out a career-high 10 and walked none over eight innings, while all nine Chanticleers starters had at least one hit in Coastal Carolina's 6-1 win in the first game.
In game two, VMI scored seven in the second and Coastal scored seven in the eighth to eventually force extra innings. In the 10th, Rob Dickinson drew a one-out walk and Matt Winn was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Nick Dwyer hit a fly ball to left field for the potential third out, but a dropped ball allowed Dickinson to score from second base for the game winner.
