North Myrtle Beach issues Water Quality Alert

From the City of North Myrtle Beach:

The City of North Myrtle Beach today (March 27) experienced a sanitary sewer line break in the area of Westport Drive.

Untreated sewage has reached the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway in the vicinity of Vereen Road via the public storm drainage system. The damaged pipeline was isolated and has been repaired.

A swimming advisory is issued for the Intracoastal Waterway near Vereen Road. High bacteria levels may be present in the water body and recreational contact at that location is not advised until bacteria levels return to normal.

City Public Works Department staff will complete all necessary repairs to the sewer pipeline and remediation along the affected storm drainage system.
