MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) – Two people already in jail for allegedly burglarizing a Surfside Beach home have been identified as suspects in a bank robbery in Murrells Inlet.
At about 2:30 p.m. on March 4, a man entered the NBSC Bank at 3796 Highway 17 and demanded money from an employee, according to a news release from the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office. The suspect told the teller he had a pistol, but no weapon was brandished. The suspect left the scene in a vehicle with an undetermined amount of cash.
Through forensic evidence and witness accounts, sheriff's office investigators identified 29-year-old Brandon Lee Christmas as the suspect in the robbery, and 31-year-old Erin Jean Nichols as his accomplice. Both are currently incarcerated at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on unrelated charges from an alleged burglary in Surfside Beach.
Christmas has been charged with armed robbery, Nichols is charged with accessory after the fact to a felony. Later, they will be transferred to the Georgetown County Detention Center.
On March 22, Surfside Beach Police officers on special patrol noticed suspicious activity at a home in the 1400 block of North Ocean Blvd., and Christmas and Nichols were arrested after officers observed a burglary in progress, according to a news release from the department.
Christmas was arrested after a brief foot chase and struggle with officers, Nichols was arrested while trying to flee.
