Conway, SC (WMBF)—Coastal Carolina University's largest philanthropy event, Relay for Life, will take place on Friday, April 5th from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The event is open to the public who may register to participate on a team or simply give donations to the cause of finding a cure for cancer.
Anyone unable to make a monetary donation are invited to donate their time, if desired.
"We always need volunteers on the day of Relay, April 5 from 4 p.m. until 8 a.m. on April 6," says Jimmy Marino, CCU student and co-chair of Relay for Life. "There are events going on throughout the night, and we need help to set up for these, in addition to the event itself."
Live music, Zumba! sessions, and the Ms. Relay pageant are just a few of the activities scheduled as part of the event. A variety of food and refreshments will be available, including pancakes and quesadillas.
In the past two years combined, Relay for Life CCU has raised more than $230,000.
"We're hoping to raise $113,000 this year to retain or improve our position as the third highest fundraising school in the nation," says Marino.
So far, more than 600 participants have raised more than $60,000.
All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
