$400k raised for Sandy Hook Elem. victim families

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Thousands of people participated in a run to benefit the families of the Newtown School Shootings on Saturday.

The run for the families was a 5-kilometer event held in downtown Hartford, CT.

A moment of silence was observed and bells were rung to remember the victims before 15,000 people began their run.

Some people just wanted to show love and support to the victims' families. "I designed this shirt so that there were hearts for each of the girls and boys," Margaret Beutler, who was present at the event said. "A colored heart for each of them. And them for the women that passed as well."

The runners helped raise $400,000. that will be donated to the families of the Newton School Shootings.
