GA teens accused of shooting mother in leg, baby in head

Posted: Updated:

BRUNSWICK, GA (WMBF) – Two Georgia teens face murder charges for the death of an infant. They are accused of trying to rob a mother who was walking with her 13-month-old son.

Sherry West told police that when she told the teens she did not have money, they shot her in the leg and shot her baby in the head. Police arrested 17-year-old De'Marquise Elkins and a 14-year-old boy who is not being identified because of his age.

"You know, because this is the second child that people have taken from me in a tragic way, and I'm so afraid to have any more babies now," West tearfully explained. "I tried to raised really good kids in a wicked world. So, I hope he dies for what he did."

In 2008, West says her 18-year-old son was stabbed to death in New Jersey, prompting her to move to Georgia. Now, she says she cannot live in Georgia after what happened and plans to move back to New Jersey.
