Powerball jackpot soars to $320 million

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - This Saturday, the Powerball jackpot will be the fifth largest in game history, $320 million. Are you feeling lucky?

If so, join the other South Carolinians who have already purchased a ticket, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery, who says ticket sales are booming ahead of this drawing.

If there is a winner, someone matching all five Powerball white numbers, they'll be beating the one in 176 million odds. The cash prize option is for $198 million.

"When we post a jackpot of this magnitude, it gets attention.  Those that don't play very often decide to take a chance and many first-time players enter the game," said the Lottery's Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea.  "As always, we encourage everyone to please, above all else, play responsibly."

If you're taking that chance, make sure you purchase your ticket by 9:59 p.m. Saturday for the 10:59 p.m. drawing. Powerball® tickets cost $2 and are available at lottery retailers statewide.
