Fire Chiefs Assoc. president releases statement on Carolina Forest Fire

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The president of the Horry/Georgetown Fire Chiefs Association released a statement regarding the Carolina Forest Fire Thursday morning, commending the first responders and expressing condolences for the lost family pets.

Read the full statement below:

The Horry/Georgetown Fire Chiefs Association expresses our concern for those affected by the recent Carolina Forest wild land/urban interface fire that destroyed over one hundred living units this past Saturday.

Although the dollar loss will be large, there was thankfully no loss of human life directly related to the fire. We express our condolences to those who lost their family pets. Like members of the family, they will be missed.

The dedication to duty displayed by the first arriving firefighters and police officers is commendable. Without their swift actions, the outcome would have been different. Thank you to those civilians that assisted the first responders with fire containment and evacuation. The unity displayed by our member departments in fighting the blaze once again exhibited our commitment to serving our communities.

As in the 2009 Hwy 31/Barefoot fire there are no words to console those affected by this disaster. As Fire Chiefs who have been a part of both of these situations, all we can say is time will heal the sorrow you are now feeling, the buildings will be rebuilt and your lives will go on.

The area Fire Chiefs will be on site at Windsor Green on Friday, March 22 at 9:00 a.m. to assist those affected by the fire with recovery of personal items.

We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

President Barstow
