Williamsburg federal prison inmate escapes

Posted: Updated:

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The Williamsburg County Sheriff's Department is assisting the Federal Corrections Institution, Williamsburg with locating an inmate who left the facility Wednesday evening, according to Sheriff Michael Johnson.

Kevin Eric Campbell as a 26-year-old slender, black male around six-feet-tall. Campbell is not considered a danger to the community.

Campbell is in a, "work camp," which is a very minimum security facility adjacent to the prison, that inmates must qualify for. One of those qualifications is that they are not a danger to the community. The work program in which Campbell was enrolled permits inmates to leave the facility.

He is not yet considered an escapee, according to Sheriff Johnson, but rather a "walk off," until a certain amount of time expires from when he left.
