Nevada (WMBF) – A training exercise turned into a deadly explosion at the Hawthorne Army Depot in western Nevada on Monday night, killing seven marines and wounding eight others.
A military official says a 60 millimeter round detonated inside of a mortar tube, hitting the marine mortar crew and surrounding personnel.
Nevada Senator Harry Reid said Marines all over the world are mourning the loss. "It was a violent explosion, we know that," Sen. Reid said." "My thoughts are with those who were injured, and of course the families that lost loved ones."
