LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) - A Horry County woman spent the weekend behind bars after police say two young children were found living in her home in unsanitary conditions.

According to the Horry County Police report, authorities responded to the home on Friday, March 15 for a domestic incident between roommates. Their first impression of the home was the large pile of trash and soda bottles resting by the front door, and a woman who emerged that was "visibly drunk."

That woman's roommate told police the woman had just gotten back home and was trying to kick her. The roommate continued to say the alleged drunk woman tends to leave the home often, leaving no one to care for the two and four-year-old children that lived there.

The roommate said he was new to the area, having just moved into the home from Ohio after meeting this woman online and didn't know who he could call to report the problem.

Police searched the home, the report states, and found the two children and 14 house cats. The kids were sleeping in the bedroom on a "pile of dirty, soiled clothes," the report states.

Officers noted that there was very little food in the house and no milk or juice for the children. There was also a strong odor of cat waste.

According to the report, the two children were released to a family member and 27-year-old Holly Lynn Kopacz was taken into custody and charged with two counts of unlawful neglect of a child.

She was released from J. Reuben Long Detention Center two days later with $10,000 bond.
