COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) – The Powerball jackpot has reached its biggest payout of 2013: an estimated $260 million for Wednesday night's drawing.
For the winner, that spells $161 million in cash, lottery officials say. No ticket matched all six numbers drawn Saturday night, rolling the Powerball jackpot to its biggest payout of the year.
If you win, Education Lottery representatives have an important piece of advice: sign the back of the winning ticket immediately.
Once signed, the ticket should be stored somewhere safe. The winner has 180 days from the date of the drawing to seek legal and financial assistance before collecting the prize.
"This is a life changing sum of money and should be managed accordingly," said the Lottery's Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea. "The winner should take their time and formulate a plan for the long term. There is no need to rush. The money isn't going anywhere and will be waiting for the winner to come forward."
The deadline to purchase a ticket for Wednesday night's 10:59 p.m. drawing is 9:59 p.m.
