What to do after a fire hits your home

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Recovering from a fire is a long road - the stress and emotion will be overwhelming at times, but here's a few steps those affected by the fire should take immediately:

First, contact your insurance company right away.

Once you have been given the okay to go inside your home, make sure you talk to your insurance agent about how they want you to make a list of everything that has been destroyed or damaged. 

Ask them how they want you to secure your home and who they recommend to help with the clean up.

If you lost credit cards and vital documents, work on getting them replaced right away, and save all of your receipts so you can show the costs of clean up to your insurance agent.

    A South Carolina Department of Transportation contractor was injured Monday morning after a tractor the worker was driving was struck by a vehicle on Highway 31, according to Pete Poore with the SCDOT. Poore confirms the contractor was cutting grass.
