Crews clear Hwy. 501 near Marion after semi crash

Posted: Updated:

MARION COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – All northbound lanes of Highway 501 have been cleared near Highway 41 after a collision with injuries involving two semi-trucks cut off traffic flow Friday morning.

WMBF reporter Kenny Baker was at the scene, and said there was an overturned semi truck and a log truck standing upright.

The Marion Fire Department and Marion County Sheriff's Office officials were on the scene of the accident, which the South Carolina Highway Patrol website states involves injuries.

Lance Corporal Sonny Collins says the log truck was traveling northbound on Highway 501 and ran a red light. That's when it struck the 18 wheeler that was attempting to cross the highway.

The accident scene was cleared Friday afternoon and all lanes were reopened to traffic. Cpl. Sonny Collins says traffic was not impacted that much. Vehicles were routed around the accident using the highway ramps.
