hotel landed one man behind bars for attempted murder.
Officers with the Myrtle Beach Police Department arrived at the
Cabana Shores on North Ocean Boulevard around 11:22 p.m. Thursday night to find
a woman with cuts on her lip and bruises on her face.
In the police report, she claims
a man "had thrown her all over the room, slapped her, choked her with his
hands, and smothered her with a pillow." She later remembered that he
called her names and screamed "I will kill you," the report states.
She said this happened earlier in
the night but didn't feel safe calling police until the man fell asleep. After
it happened, she recalls the man wouldn't let her leave the room and asked her
to "wash off," in an attempt to hide any injuries.
The male suspect was sleeping on
the hotel room bed when police walked in to interview him about what happened.
He said nothing happened, and the victim was drunk.
A witness in the area claims he
saw the suspect beating and choking the woman but chose not to get involved
because he was "afraid of the [man] due to the size difference."
The suspect, 37-year-old Cletis
Edward Baker, was arrested and charged with attempted murder. His bond has not
been set.
