HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - So far, four of the suspects targeted on "Horry County's Most Wanted" have been caught.
There are still thousands more on the run - and the sheriff's office needs your help finding them.
Tracking down criminals and arresting them in the early morning hours is no easy task. WMBF News' Theo Hayes learned that first hand in this week's segment.
The Horry County Sheriff's Office says the element of surprise is the easiest way to catch a criminal. Deputies set out a little after 4:30 in the morning, with bullet proof vests on, and Theo learned that when it comes to catching people on the run, it's hit and miss.
These officers have dozens of warrants on them in the car, including an individual that's got three or four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and another that's wanted for a DUI.
With more than 22,000 people in Horry County with warrants out for their arrest, finding them can be an uphill battle.
The first stop was to an apartment complex on Eastbrook Drive, but the apartment number deputies have doesn't exist. From there we headed over to Ocean Boulevard, where it's easy to get a room and hide out.
The warrants division has a tip that Shaughn Ruddy, wanted for receiving stolen goods, is staying at the West Gate Resort.
The hotel is unable to find Ruddy on their guest list, but later calls and says he checked out at noon. Deputies say it's possible he was hiding out under a different name. We move on to Carolina Forest to an apartment in Berkshire Forest.
They're looking for a man wanted for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
"Anytime that we knock on somebody's door and we have an arrest warrant, yeah, it's a dangerous thing," said one deputy. "We don't know what's on the other side of that door. Every time we knock it's an unknown."
The tenant opens the door and allows deputies to search, but the man's father tells them his son is out of town on work.
It's no easy task; that's why your tips are crucial. The two men we are featuring this week are:
Olegario Cruz, 40 is wanted for criminal sexual conduct with a minor. The report says the victim, a child between the ages of 11 and 14, says she doesn't like the way Cruz touches her – she said it, "makes me feel dirty."
Isabele Sanchez, 32, is wanted for first-degree burglary, trespassing and criminal domestic violence.
