CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A teenager pleaded guilty in Horry County Court last week to charges in connection with an investigation that police say revealed he offered to pay to have someone kidnapped and killed.

Travis Dean Messer, 18, pleaded guilty on March 5 to criminal conspiracy and two counts of solicitation to commit a felony, according to Horry County Court public records.

As part of the plea deal, Messer was sentenced to no more than five years in prison, and the charges of attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping were dropped, records reveal.

Police in North Myrtle Beach said Messer began contacting someone in July 2012 about kidnapping and murdering someone.

Text messages from Messer reportedly show he was willing to pay several hundred dollars for the crime. He was taken into custody by police and released less than six hours later.
