FLORENCE, SOUTH CAROLINA (WMBF) - In spite of delays in IRS filling, people are
continuing to spend their tax refund money at local businesses, owners say.
Florence Business owners say they look forward to this time
of year because people buy their products with tax refund money. Many
businesses say the months leading up to March are slow for them, and they are just as
excited to sell products as people are to buy them.
"People start getting refunds, and they need a place to
spend it, and we're all
too happy to take it from them," said Rick Knight.
Around tax season, businesses say more people buy items like T.V.'s, furniture and
cars.
This year,
pawn shop owners say they are seeing more people buy guns. Those owners say
more people are buying guns because
of the recent uncertainty in gun laws out of Washington.
Pee Dee Auto sales say they have already sold 400 cars this
tax season. Normally the dealership sells 200 a month.
"A lot of businesses this time of year, that's how we make our money this time of year," ," said David Richardson .
"And like I say, it
gets us through the rest of the year. Tax time is our biggest time of year."
Richardson said cars brands like Nissans and Dodge sell well
this time of year, because people view those brands as inexpensive and
reliable.
According to Rick Knight of Knight Furniture, people are
shopping for couches and sofas with their tax return. Knight said even if people don't come directly to
his store and buy, he still sees the result of people investing money into the
city.
