North Carolina fugitive arrested in Horry County

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Horry County deputies arrested a North Carolina fugitive Wednesday morning in the Green Sea section of the county, according to Horry County Sheriff's Office's facebook page.

Zarius Vereen is wanted in North Carolina by the NC Department of Corrections for a probation violation and is currently awaiting extradition back to NC in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Vareen was caught Wednesday when deputies from the Horry County Sheriff's Office, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and U.S. Marshall's task force arrived at an address in Horry County's Green Sea section to locate him. Sergeant Jeff Benton noticed a vehicle nearby and recognized Vareen in the backseat.

Several others in the car driving Vareen were also arrested for gun violations and drug charges.
