Hartsville considers roundabout at dangerous intersection

HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) – Hartsville leaders there are looking into adding a roundabout to a dangerous intersection.

The intersection in questions is at the corner of Highway 151 and 14th Street; there have been 21 accidents there in the last two and a half years, according to a Hartsville newsletter. Eight of these resulted in severe injuries.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation tried to solve the problem be reconfiguring roads and stoplights, but computer models showed the problem got worse, the newsletter states.

City officials say a roundabout will be safer and faster for those traveling.

The city will be meeting with the country transportation commission next month to see if a roundabout is the best option.
