CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina men's basketball team's 2012-13 campaign came to a close in the first round of the VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Conference Basketball Championships. The Chants fell to Liberty University, which used a 41-33 advantage on the glass and a 12 to one discrepancy in 3-pointers to take a 78-61 victory inside The HTC Center.

Coastal's record falls to 14-15 on the year while the Flames improve to 12-20.

The Chants were led by all-conference senior Anthony Raffa who had a team-high 23 points and three steals in his final game as a Chanticleer. Fellow senior and Coastal Carolina's all-time winningest player, Kierre Greenwood, finished with 19 points in his final game.

The Flames were led by Davon Marshall who hit five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 28 points. He also tied for the team lead with six rebounds.

Coastal shot a cold 38.6% from the field including just 28.6% in the second half. The Chants hit just 1-16 from beyond the 3-point line while the Flames nailed 9-20 from long range and finished shooting 41.5% from the field.

Liberty out-rebounded the Chants by eight which was the second largest rebound margin a Chanticleer opponent has had over Coastal this season.

CCU opened the game with a 14-3 run but Liberty quickly answered with a 21-6 run that gave the Flames a 24-20 lead with 6:14 left in the half. The two teams would bounce the lead back-and-forth the rest of the period with the Flames taking a 38-35 advantage into halftime.

A layup by Raffa to open the second half scoring cut the lead to just one but CCU was unable to get over the hump as the Flames quickly built a nine-point lead thanks to a pair of 3-pointers and a jumper. CCU managed to make an 8-0 run as Raffa and Greenwood chipped in four points each to cut the lead back to one. The game would remain close until with 9:28 left and the Chants down four, the Flames began a 20-2 run to take a 22-point advantage with just over 1:30 left in the game. CCU outscored the Flames 7-1 down the stretch but it was too late as Liberty took home a 78-61 victory.
