CONWAY, SC (WMBF)- A Public Defender with the 15th District was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after she was stopped by Conway Police on Saturday.
Around 4:20 a.m. on March 2nd, an officer pulled over a vehicle traveling on Elm Street near Conway Middle School after the vehicle crossed into the fog lane in front of the school, and then made a left turn onto 13th Avenue.
After pulling the vehicle over, the officer observed that the driver was slurring her words and exhibiting signs of intoxication. After conducting a field sobriety test, 32-year-old Melinda Knowles was placed under arrest for DUI and having an open container in her vehicle.
A passenger in her vehicle was also cited for having an open container.
Knowles was booked at J. Reuben Long Detention Center and was released the same day.
Knowles is an Assistant Public Defender with the Public Defender 15th Circuit that serves both Horry and Georgetown Counties.
