Local Girl Scouts win big at LEGO competition

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Girl Scout troop from Florence won two awards at the 2013 FIRST LEGO League South Carolina Tournament on Saturday.

The Tech Chicz placed second in the Core Values category, one that evaluates teamwork and cooperation, and won the Inspiration Award for of their display of enthusiasm and spirit in their first LEGO League experience.

The LEGO program nurtures young girls' interest in science and technology while emphasizing leadership, teamwork and discovery skills.

The troop team members are Madison Korel and Kierra McCall of Moore Intermediate School, and Victoria Maldonado, Anna Tilton and Aspen Collins of Sneed Middle School.

Other local teams that competed were Horry County's Genius Gemstones and the FemBots from the Tri-county area.
