New kind of business opens in the Market Common

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Monday morning will the first time the new Santee Cooper Credit Union in the Market Common opens for business. A representative for the bank says they're excited about the new location.

"We chose this area because it's the fastest-growing retail area in Horry County. We serve individuals, so we look forward to serving everyone who lives here and works here," said Jennifer Tallevast, Branch Manager for the new Santee Cooper Credit Union.

Those who run the Market Common say businesses are starting to realize this area has a lot of promise for future business.

"Businesses definitely like seeing all the neighborhoods grow, and all the people who are moving here," said Hatton Gravely with the Market Common. Gravely says the Market Common could be the next big shopping center in the Grand Strand.

"I think that this is going to be a great year for the Market Common and we will continue to grow," added Gravely. The Market Common just rolled out brand new, attention-grabbing signs along Farrow, and it won't stop with a new credit union. Gravely says the plans for a community pool are still in the works, and we're hearing about new businesses coming to the shopping center.

In addition to the up tick in retail, there's a lot of new housing developments along Farrow Parkway. Demand is up and people are buying. Realtors say it's because we've already bottomed out, and prices are going up. Neighborhoods near the Market Common are experiencing a lot of new construction activity, especially single-family homes which seem to be the most successful, according to local agents.

Local real estate agent Linda Cataldo says people looking to buy should do so now.  "People right now are regretting waiting those few weeks because what they were interested in is now no longer available," she said.

The new housing growth could keep bringing even more business to the shopping center. "With the neighborhoods growing and all of the stores, I think that this is going to be a great year for the Market Common and we will continue to grow," added Gravely.

The new Santee Cooper Credit Union is relocating from its former 21st Ave. location. It will open doors for the first time Monday Morning in its new Market Common location.
