HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBMF) – A man led highway patrol officers on a high-speed chase early Sunday morning before crashing and fleeing into the woods on foot, officials said.

Highway Patrol officers were attempting to stop a car in Marion County for a moving violation at about 3 a.m. Sunday, said Horry County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Jeff Benton. The 2011 Chevy two-door car failed to stop, leading SCHP on a high-speed chase into Horry County.

The man then crashed the car near the intersection of Daisy Road and Billy Mc Road in Green Sea., Sgt. Benton said. The suspect fled the scene, running into the woods. Officers were unable to find him, and do not have a specific description of him.

Because it is a highway patrol-involved incident, the Horry County Sheriff's Office is investigating, added Sgt. Benton.

Anyone with information on the suspect or incident is asked to call the Horry County Sheriff's Office at (843) 915-5450.
