5 injured, 1 airlifted after traffic accident near Loris

LORIS, SC (WMBF) – Five people were injured, and one was airlifted, after a traffic accident this morning near Loris, officials confirmed.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol officials, a truck ran a stop sign on Huggins Road at Mt. Zion Rd at about 8:06 a.m. Thursday, then struck another truck on the passenger side.

The driver of the truck that ran the stop sign was flown by helicopter to a local hospital, and the four injured people from the two vehicles were transported via ambulance.

The Loris Volunteer Fire Department sent pictures of two severely damaged cars via Twitter.

Crews from the Loris Volunteer Fire Department, South Carolina Highway Patrol, Horry County Fire and Rescue, and Horry Electric responded to the scene.

The driver that ran the stop sign will face charges for disregarding traffic signal, SCHP officials said.
