GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - An ROTC instructor is facing charges for his alleged assault of a student on school grounds.
According to Georgetown County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson, the assault was reported at Carvers Bay High School on Wednesday, Feb. 20.
Deputies investigating say the assault was between a staff member and 17-year-old male student who was purportedly placed in a choke hold and thrown to the ground.
The ROTC instructor for Carvers Bay High, 47-year-old Phillip Welsh, has been arrested in connection to this incident and charged with assault and battery.
Cuthbertson adds that the victim did not report any injuries.
