U.S. Rep. Clyburn visits Black Water Middle School

Posted: Updated:

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Congressman James Clyburn was the keynote speaker at Black Water Middle School Thursday for the school's Annual Black History Month Celebration, according to a news release from the school.

The Congressman spoke about the importance of honoring and remembering not only past African-Americans and heritage, but also all other nationalities and heritage.  He spoke about not giving up after failure and continuing to try until success.  He used his own political career as reference; he failed his first three times at getting into public office, he said.  Congressman Clyburn was also presented with a certificate of appreciation from the school for attending.

The program also featured the 8th grade symphony orchestra, the Blackwater Middle School Voices choir, and a poem reading by a student.
