FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Moments after Florence Police determined who was responsible for a young woman's tragic death, the suspect surrendered his freedom to police in Myrtle Beach.

The 34-year-old woman, identified as Kendra Johnson, was found dead inside her home on Bellevue Drive by a coworker when she didn't show up for work Wednesday morning. That coworker could see her lying on floor from the back door. She entered the house and called 911 around 8:30 a.m.

"There was probably half dozen to a dozen cop cars around," said neighbor Chris Drawdy. "We saw a lady outside crying so we knew something was up."

Florence Police Chief Anson Shells says the woman's death has been ruled a homicide though the cause of death has not been released by the coroner.

The suspect was identified later in the afternoon as Doni Terelle Anderson. When police began to search for him, they discovered he was in the process of surrendering himself to police in Myrtle Beach.

Police issued an arrest warrant for murder, and made a trip to the Grand Strand to transport Anderson to the Florence County Detention Center. When he was booked around 11:24 p.m. Wednesday night he was charged with murder in connection to Johnson's death.

Neighbors say they're trying to wrap their heads around the fact a murder happened in their neighborhood. They say neighbors usually keep to themselves, and they have some crime, but nothing of this magnitude.

"It's sad, especially with this happening right across the street," Drawdy said. "And you wouldn't expect this around here, except for traffic we're a fairly quiet neighborhood."
