Sentence reached in North Charleston pizza delivery murder

ST. GEORGE, S.C. (AP) - A 19-year-old man who pleaded guilty to robbing and killing a pizza delivery driver in North Charleston last year has been sentenced to 49 years in prison.

Stephawn Brown was sentenced Friday after he pleaded guilty Thursday to murder and armed robbery, bringing an end to his trial. He could have been sentenced to life behind bars.

Authorities say Brown and 18-year-old Jontae Davis attacked 20-year-old Maraleius Birdsong when he came to deliver pizza. Investigators said they stole $20 and the food, then Brown shot the delivery man in the back of the head.

Davis pleaded guilty earlier this week and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
