GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - Deputies following a suspicious vehicle discovered what they believed to be multiple bags of heroin in Georgetown County.

The car, with expired tags, blew through a stop sign near Stevenson Road in Georgetown around 1 a.m. Thursday.

When deputies initiated a traffic stop, they found 32-year-old Willie James Edwards of Pawleys Island with 17 bags of a substance that appeared to be heroin. Further search of the car revealed a smaller bag of a heroin like substance in the console belonging to 26-year-old David Leland Yelton.

Edwards is charged with trafficking heroin and resisting arrest. Yelton was taken into custody and charged with possession of heroin. Both were transported to the Georgetown County Detention Center where they are awaiting a bond hearing.
