Learn to prevent ID theft at free seminar in Florence today

FLORENCE, S.C. (WMBF) – A free seminar on preventing identity theft will be held in Florence today.

The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs is hosting the seminar today in conjunction with the South Carolina Bar, the University of South Carolina School of Law, and the Federal trade Commission, according to a news release from SCDCA.

The presentation will cover preventing identity theft, security freezes and fraud alerts, and how to read and dispute a credit card report, the release states. After the presentation, attendees can discuss their identity theft issues with an attorney for free.

The event will be held at the Doctors Bruce and lee Foundation Library in Florence from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Limited spaces are available, so consumers are encourages to register early by calling the SCDCA at 800-922-1594, or by e-mailing JHarris@scconsumer.gov.
