FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – Five people have been taken to a nearby
hospital and a school bus driver has been cited after a two-vehicle accident in Florence.
At about 1:30 p.m. Monday, three school buses were driving
east near the 1000 block of W. Palmetto St., according to Major Carlos Raines
with the Florence Police Department.
A vehicle ahead of the buses stopped to make a left turn,
and the bus driver behind them tried to stop and over-corrected, causing the bus
to skid sideways on the wet roads, into
the oncoming lane of traffic, Raines said.
The bus hit another vehicle head-on, Raines said. That car's single occupant was not injured, according to school spokesperson Pam Little McDaniel.
Four
adults and two children were on the bus, and all but one adult were taken to a local
hospital, McDaniel said. Raines does not believe that any of those involved were seriously
injured.
The driver of the school bus was charged for driving too
fast for conditions, according to Raines.
